Irmengarde Eberle (1898-1979)
aka Allyn Allen

American author of children's and young adult books. Born in San Antonio, Texas in 1898. She worked as an editor on various magazines whilst also writing freelance and published her first children's book in 1921. She did not have another book published for over 15 years, but with the publication of her second her writing career really took off and she soon became a prolific author. She wrote mainly non-fictional books for children, including biographies and the well-known "Lives Here" series about various animals and their habitats. She also wrote a number of children's and young adult stories which included mysteries, adventures and animal stories. Horses appeared in a few of these novels.

Ms. Eberle also wrote under the names of Allyn Allen (including one pony book) and Phyllis Ann Carter.

SUMMARY: Johnny rides the farmer Mr. Rolf's horse Red Boy. One day he forgets to shut the gate and let Mr. Rolf's cows out, causing destruction to the his garden. But Johnny manages to redeem himself when a flood attacks the farm and he rescues the animals.

PETE AND THE MOUSE
(ABELARD-SCHUMAN [USA] 1964)

SUMMARY: Younger reader's story. Pete  the horse is friends with all the animals on the farm, even a tiny mouse! When a flood strikes the farm, their friendship saves them both.

MUSTANG ON THE PRAIRIE
(DOUBLEDAY [USA] 1968)
ILLUSTRATED BY JOSEPH CELLINI
SUMMARY: Historical pony story set at an older readership than the above two stories. The fates of a wild mustang and a pioneer family intertwine.

SUMMARY: Turn of the century ranching story about a girl called Francie Lou and her adventures on a ranch. Some horse content but not sure how much as I haven't read it and can't find out anything more about it - may be slight and peripheral only. Please let me know if you have read the book and can enlighten us on the level of horse content!
